Her impressive career includes senior positions at some of London’s most renowned luxury hotels, including The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, 41 Hotel & Rubens at the Palace Hotel, W Hotel on Leicester Square and opening the Jumeirah Residences in Park Lane, amongst others.

As a psychology graduate with a passion for people, I found the perfect place to bring that passion to life in hospitality and housekeeping. Since 2013, at The Grand Hotel, I’ve been fortunate to work with an exceptional team dedicated to delivering outstanding experiences for both our guests and our colleagues.
 
In 2023, I was honoured to receive a Catey Award, and I have since had the privilege of contributing as a member of the judging panel.
 
From December 2025 I have been the UKHA Chair for London & SE and my focus is on strengthening connections within our profession. I aim to create more opportunities for housekeepers across London and South East region to network, share ideas, and celebrate best practice. I am also committed to promoting professional recognition, supporting skills development, encouraging innovation and creating equal opportunities within a welcoming, inclusive environment for people from diverse backgrounds. Supporting the wellbeing and growth of our teams remains my key priority.

Janet Thompson

Executive Housekeeper at the Queens Hotel in Leeds

Janet took over as Yorkshire Regional Chair from Lisa Williams on of 1st April 2025. She is a highly motivated and experienced Executive Head Housekeeper from Yorkshire, with nearly 40 years’ experience in both 4 and 5* hotels widely spread from North to the South of England.

Whilst working for WGC she was involved in the training and development of supervisors and head housekeepers along with managing 10 hotels and 2,000, bedrooms combined.

Janet enjoyed 2 glorious years in Jersey responsible for a 285-bedroom hotel along with 29 self-contained apartments. Her passion for housekeeping has been kept alive over the years by her constant interaction with other Executive Head Housekeepers and she looks forward to every monthly association meeting to share ideas and obtain information from a group of ladies and gentleman that she has built strong relationships with over the years.

I am an experienced hospitality professional with over 20 years of experience in housekeeping leadership across luxury hotels, branded properties and multi-site hospitality operations.

Throughout my career, I have built a strong reputation for improving standards, developing people and creating successful housekeeping teams. My experience includes luxury hotel operations, quality standards, compliance, hotel openings and supporting teams through periods of change and improvement.

I am currently the Executive Head Housekeeper at The Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa.

I believe that great housekeeping starts with great people. I am passionate about supporting teams, sharing knowledge and recognising the important role housekeeping professionals play in the success of hospitality.

As Chair of the Manchester & North West Region for the UK Housekeepers Association, I look forward to bringing people together, creating opportunities to learn and connect, and supporting the continued development of housekeeping professionals across the region.

Marie Winwood

Marie is taking the role of Midlands & SW Chair as an associate member on an interim basis. She has been a long standing and active committee member for the region.

"After working for over 30 years dealing with the public, from working in hotels at the early age of 16 to working in travel for over 20 years, my aim is to ensure my customers are treated with the highest customer service I would like to receive.

I endeavour to deliver a high level of customer service at every point of contact and keep my customers fully informed.

I have worked for DTR Hygiene for 8 years and we supply all Janitorial and Consumables products to many different types of organisations and companies and every day I am learning. I am also a mother to 3 lovely children who keep are all growing up very fast but make me proud of their achievements over the years.

I look forward to meeting and talking to all the members."

Ruth Clark

Head Housekeeper Isle of Eriska Hotel and Spa, near Oban

After spending two and a half years at the Cairndale Hotel and Spa, Ruth has moved back in to 5 star properties and is pleased to announce that she is now the Head Housekeeper at the Isle of Eriska Hotel and Spa, near Oban. A truly stunning hotel, nestled on its own private island off the west coast of Scotland, the epitome of luxury hospitality with a rich history dating back to 1884. And only accessible via the bridge from the mainland! Ruth and her team look after rooms and suites in the main house, plus the lodges and cottages in the extensive grounds. 

Background

I graduated with an HND in Hospitality Management back in 1994 from Fife College, Kirkcaldy, from there I started off working in large hotels such as the Marriott Dalmahoy and the old Forth Bridges Hotel (now demolished).

From the large hotels I then moved into small mainly privately run hotels such as Castle Stewart in Inverness, Ardanaiseig Hotel, and Holbeck Ghyll.

I trained as a General Manager at Highland Heritage Coach Tours before running the Crianlarich Hotel for a year. From there I secured a position on the 5 star Hebridean Princess where I was for 3.5 years.

I have worked at Dundas Castle in South Queensferry, helped set up and open the Machrie Hotel on the Isle of Islay and worked at Pittormie Castle, Bridge of Orchy Hotel and Cameron House.

Throughout my career, I have always favoured Housekeeping, however I have worked in all departments.

As Scotland Chair I feel I would like to help the association as I have free time to give. I am always looking for new challenges, I attend every meeting and I like to meet people and I am a Housekeeper. I also believe I can continue bring new and fresh ideas to the committee. I am very passionate about Housekeeping and I hope that my passion rubs off on others who attend the meetings.
