Yorkshire & NE March Review 2018

Yorkshire & NE March Review 2018
  • Region: Yorkshire and The North East
  • Meeting: DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds

The meeting was held at Doubletree By Hilton Leeds. Unfortunately, the bad weather did cause some disruption for the attendees, but thankfully it did not dampen the atmosphere in the room.

The meeting was held at Doubletree By Hilton Leeds. The general manager Martin Vann sponsored the event. The wonderful food was catered by executive chef Seb Greaves, he was joined by the amazing Dimi, who was a fabulous host and made the event flow seamlessly from start to finish. Unfortunately, the bad weather did cause some disruption for the attendees, but thankfully it did not dampen the atmosphere in the room.

The speakers Katie Parlett MBE and Caron Munro from Lighthouse Future Trust delivered a very emotive and thought evoking presentation. They shared some interesting education & recruitment possibilities for future employees within the Hotel industry and beyond. Lighthouse Future Trust work closely with employees through their Talent City programmes to develop bespoke internships. These internships promote equality and diversity in a safe environment. We learned that in fact, one graduate from the Talent City programme finished his internship and was offered a position at one of our Leeds members City Centre Hotel.

Our members also heard about Keepers Coffee & Kitchen. A great new Café, serving homemade food alongside exceptional gifts. At the Keepers Coffee & Kitchen you can find a varied selection of plants and a section of re-loved clothing, anything from Prada to Primark. Pop in to the café on Otley Old Road, Cookridge, Leeds. A fantastic new venture, where all profits go towards creating employment opportunities for young adults with an Autistic Spectrum Condition or learning disability and help change lives. Everyone's support is much appreciated.

We will issue the slides from the night via email in due course. If any would be interested in finding out more; please contact Caron at caron@lighthousefuturetrust.org.uk

If any other region would be interested in inviting them to be speakers at their meeting; please contact a member of the Yorkshire committee.

Thank you to everyone at the meeting for wearing your t-shirts for the Leeds Barmey Armey VIFA initiative. You were really good sports and these were worn for Valour Hospitality, they showcased our sponsors Imperial Laundry. Imperial are a commercial laundry service with Head Office in Nottinghamshire.
