Review of “A night at the Oscars” UKHA Summer Ball 2017

Our Annual Summer Ball was hosted by the UKHA Midlands, Wales and South West Region at Coombe Abbey, Coventry. The event themed “A Night at the Oscars” was very well attended on a beautiful summers' evening enabling networking to take place in relaxed elegant and salubrious surroundings.

On arrival a Champagne reception, including a ”Bubbles” tombola was held on the terrace of the magnificent Coombe Abbey overlooking gardens of splendour. This was followed by a red carpet entrance complete with Paparazzi style photographers to a beautifully decorated Marquee where every detail had been given consideration including 8 foot high Oscar statues.

Each table had been appropriately named after an Oscar winning movie befitting the theme of the event and each chair was laden with a personalised glorious goody bag, the contents of which included high end pamper products such as Elemis, the White Company and, & l,ocitane there were also chocolates , Prosecco and slippers to name but a few items.

The five course menu was a gastronomic delight, served by very attentive staff, the wine flowed and we were entertained by charismatic crooner Fil Straughan who serenaded as he worked the room and mingled effortlessly with the guests, this entertainment carried on through to the Oscar after party.

    Thank you to our Sponsors

After dinner came the raffle inclusive of a 4 day fully crewed, fully catered yacht voyage for 4 people with on board entertainment sponsored by Aquasmantas and a BA flight to France with Luxury accommodation sponsored by King of Cotton Plus many more divine prizes.

The awards aspect enabled an opportunity to acknowledge our sponsors by presenting a miniture Oscar to those who were instrumental in contributing to the ultimate success. Our main sponsors for the event were Vision Support Services. Our thanks also goes to our other amazing sponsors: Killis, Fishers, National Laundry Group, Mitre, Richard Howarth, Musbury, Mattisons, Bed factory, Hypnos, MKG, WGC, and Atlas Hotels Services. Many others supplied items for the goody bags and raffle prizes including luxury spa breaks and shopping vouchers.

The main event continued until midnight where in true celebrity style the “after party” commenced in the Court House. It was at this time that the Cinderella gowns were hitched up and the crystal encrusted heels were divested and substituted for the aforementioned slippers which had been thoughtfully and tactfully placed in the goody bags thus allowing comfortable partying until the small hours.

Fortunately as beautiful rooms were booked at this splendid hotel, carriages or pumpkins were not necessary. All in all a roaring success and a truly memorable occasion.

Chair for the Midlands Wales and South West Region, Delia Cannings had the great pleasure of assisting the committee to plan organise and execute this event and she commented “In my first year as the Chair I feel so well supported by industry colleagues and this Summer Ball was testimony to how well we work together and what can be achieved. A truly successful event. I wish to express my sincere thanks to all who attended, all who were involved far too many to mention. I particularly wish to acknowledge the UKHA Midlands, Wales & South West committee for their tireless efforts, passion and drive."

See you all in Scotland next year!!
