2016 in the UKHA Yorkshire and NE Regions - UK Housekeepers Association

2016 in the UKHA Yorkshire and NE Regions

2016 in the UKHA Yorkshire and NE Regions

It has been an amazing year with an introduction of a second scholarship in the region, sponsored by Jas at Just Bins. This is an educational scholarship with membership of UKHA, IOH & sponsored attendance of shared knowledge day. Well done to Lurdes at Marriott city centre Leeds on achieving this scholarship, an accolade well deserved.

Our first scholarship winner, which is a bequeathed scholarship from a previous member Sheridan Smith. Janet from Wood Hall Hotel & Spa as part of her scholarship receives UKHA, IOH memberships and a sponsored trip to shared knowledge day.

Our first ever scholarship winner has blossomed with the support of the UKHA and is now a committee member and has organised & run his first regional meeting.

Due to the success of the summer ball we are offering a third scholarship which is to train & develop housekeepers with an understanding of off premises laundries and support a team member of an affiliated laundry to understand the role of a head housekeeper and their controls of linen in their establishment.

The scholarships are open for 2017 and all applications need to be placed in writing to the Chair, Kerry Adams, for discussion with the committee. Closing date for applications is 1st March 2017.

All meeting venues have been confirmed for 2017 other than March as we are awaiting confirmation. Please regularly check the website for information.

The region was represented at the UKHA Winter Ball 2016 by Kerry, Terrie, Liz & Sophie. In excess of 300 people attended & enjoyed a delightful evening which was hosted by the London & South East committee. Our National Chair, Lorraine Dale, announced that the event was a bringing a close to 2016 and opening a new year with projects, ideas & plans bubbling in readiness for 2017. Click here to see the images from the event.

We look forward to welcoming all our members to our planned meetings in the new year and extend our gratitude to all our sponsors, members, regional & national committee members for their continued support in our efforts to develop & support our housekeeping members.

Finally, we wish you all a healthy, prosperous and successful 2017.

    Warmest Regards,

    Yorkshire & North East Committee

Meeting Review - Holdsworth House, Halifax

This grand Jacobean manor built in 1633 has been owned and run by the Pearson family since 1963. Holdsworth House is the top hotel in Halifax and stands in stunning, secluded gardens, just three miles north of Halifax in the heart of West Yorkshire’s dramatic landscape.

Joseph & Julie welcomed the members for a second year running. I don't know how they did it but they built on the meeting of last year & it was an even greater success. John Middleton returned for a second year to build on his first speaker visit regarding networking. Everyone took part in a fun adventure & speed-networked. This was fabulous as we had so many new potential members and they had a chance to network professionally with existing members & become part of the family.

John has kindly summarised and provided us with his insights to share with you all, he explains what networking for him is about “building effective relationships over time for mutual benefit” along with some useful tips and strategies, you can read more here »

The raffle surpassed everyone's expectations, I believe every member present won at least 1 raffle prize, some won 2. Many thanks to all our members who made it a successful meeting once again.

Kerry asked Liz Smith-Mills to join her on the floor. Kerry then explained to the membership that due to her expanding role at work, she required further support and Liz Smith-Mills as a funding member agreed to come on board as deputy to assist.

James announced the venue & date for the post Christmas dinner at Wood Hall Hotel & Spa, Wetherby in January. Terrie will send out an update with price, accommodation rates & date via a flyer to our regional members. We hope to see all our members there.

Kerry further announced that all dates & venues have been agreed for 2017. Please check the Yorkshire Events page for the latest event information.
