The Yorkshire region was founded in 1988 with the first meeting being held at the Hilton Hotel Leeds. In 1988 the region hosted the Annual National Summer Dinner Dance at the Majestic Hotel Harrogate. The event was a sell out and the main entertainment was the one and only Ken Dodd. Leeds and the region is the second financial city after London and has a large and varied hotel stock from lodges to five stars, Boutique hotels to Student Accommodation. Leeds has two universities of which Leeds Metropolitan University has just seen its hospitality courses rated as excellent the section is one of the largest in Europe. In 2003 the region encompassed the Manchester and Lancashire branches, the two areas have always worked together having held several joint meetings. In 2005 the North East Region was amalgamated back into Yorkshire 12 years after founding their own branch. This joining together makes Yorkshire one of the largest regions in geographical terms. |
