UK Housekeepers clean up in Las Vegas!

[Monday 01 December 2008]

Five members of the UK Housekeepers Association have recently returned from the International Executive Housekeepers Association Convention in Las Vegas. The convention had over 400 IEHA members in attendance from across the states and Hawaii and the event was at the same time as the ISSA/Interclean convention where in total over 17,000 professionals were registered for the four days.

The five who attended were Ian Hughes, National Chairman of the UK Housekeepers Association, Sheila Perera, General Manager, Glenmore at Gleneagles, Jean Roberts, Head Housekeeper Hotel du Vin Harrogate and York, Liz Smith-Mills, Housekeeping Consultant Johnson Diversey and Linda Cooper, Executive Housekeeper, Connaught Hotel London.

Ian Hughes said, “it was a great privilege for me to be invited to the event in Vegas by our colleagues in the States where I received a warm and genuine welcome as we all did from the UK. We were given special treatment and privileges wherever we went” There was time to visit several of the famous Las Vegas hotels and see new innovations in their housekeeping departments as well as discussing staffing and standard issues in properties with over 5000 rooms.

The links with the IEHA are very close and several of the IEHA members are planning to attend the 25th anniversary event of the UKHA in 2010.
